I felt a little bad for posting a so-so Brubeck album so here’s the famous Time Out. Paul Desmond, alto sax, penned the popular track “Take Five” which should sound awfully familiar to anyone. It has since become jazz standard. The entire album plays in odd time (3/8, 5/4, you get the picture). “Blue Rondo à la Turk” has become one of my favourite jazz songs. The story goes Brubeck found inspiration from hearing a man play traditional Middle Eastern music on street. The song thus has a upbeat rhythm of 9/8, switching midway to cool jazz. Other great tracks include “Three To Get Ready” and “Everybody’s Jumpin'”.
